30 December 2007

looking back while headed north

resolutions from last january 1:
1. spend more time with family
2. get involved
3. volunteer
4. move to texas
5. get ready for grad school
6. shop less
7. stay in better contact w/ my friends
8. read more books, papers and magazines
9. see more films
10. waste less time on the internet

in the past year i have accomplished #1, 4, 7, and 8
i have made progress on #2 and 9
as for the rest (#3, 5, 6, and 10), i seem to have a bit hopeless this past year. definitely more progress this next year.

i'll make up a new list sometime in the next week. i think 'starting fresh' on jan1 is kind of a dumb idea, but it is a good milemarker just to check in and see how things are progressing along... so in that spirit, i'll make some 'progress goals' for 2008... sometime soonish.

for now, i'm back at my favorite place, the airport, waiting for my flight back up to the bean. another new years eve in boston with the friendies. :) party tomorrow. as long as i get there... stupid delayed flights.

we're going all the way

ellen and i are always complaining that we're poor. right after we've bought our latest pair of shoes or pants or cute purse. we shop a bit too much.

at least we got to the first step, admitting we have a problem.

so now we're challenging each other. no shopping for 2 months! thats pretty extreme and we know we're addicts. so just like dieters get that allowance for a slice of chocolate cake every now and then, we're giving ourselves an allowance. $75 per month of fun money. that's it. that's all we can spend on funstuff. of course we can still buy groceries and necessities as needed w/o cutting into our fun money. and also, limiting our dining out to 3x week. for some people, that a lot already. but considering how lazy i am... 3x is not enough.

challenge starts today. thru april 7. this is going to be good. good for me. right?

ugh. i'm still looking at stuff on ebay... just looking! and besides, i have my $75 discretionary fund...

happy new year

and so it begins.

we (iska, rach and i) rang in the new year at a house party in somerville. we drank and danced and ate cookies.

it wasn't very dramatic or fancy. i didn't know most of the people in attendance. but it was fun and we made it home safely and that's what is important.

i may have moved a total of 40 feet today but no big. starting tomorrow- action!
